Annual Lewis Award Dinner Held
The Lewis Award Annual Dinner was held in Raleigh Saturday, May 2, 2009. Honorees at the Dinner were Mrs. Susan Goethals, the 2008-2009 Recipient of the Monsignor Gerald Lawrence Lewis Award for Excellence in Teaching, and Ms. Sarah Almon, the fourth Recipient of the Monsignor Gerald Lawrence Lewis Award for Lifetime Achievement in Catholic Education.
Mrs. Goethals was presented with the Excellence in Teaching Award on April 22, 2009, during a Liturgy in her honor at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh. The Excellence in Teaching Award is an annual Teacher of the Year recognition in the Schools of the Diocese of Raleigh, grades K-12.
Ms. Almon was presented the Lifetime Achievement in Catholic Education at Our Lady of Lourdes School, Raleigh, close of school Mass in June 2008. The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented by the Lewis Award Committee to an individual who has shown outstanding and ongoing commitment to Catholic Education over an extended period of time. The Lifetime Achievement Award has been presented to only three other individuals.
The Lewis Award Dinner also honors all past Recipients of the Excellence in Teaching and Lifetime Achievement Awards, the Lewis Award Committee, and donors to the Lewis Award Endowment fund.
